In honor of Chef’s 10 year anniverisary we caught up with him in the kitchen to ask him a few questions!
What initially attracted you to apply to Curt’s?
When I applied to Curt’s Café, I was looking for a change in my career. I had never heard of Curt’s prior to the job posting, but I decided to apply anyway. During my first interview with Susan, I learned about Curt’s mission, and from that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
What does the Curt’s mission mean to you?
To me, it means hope and opportunities. Being able to give second chances to those who deserve it and may not be able to get it somewhere else.
What is one of your favorite memories from over the years?
There are many moments to choose from, but one that stands out is when one of my earlier students graduated. Not only did he complete the program, but he also continued working alongside me in the kitchen as an assistant. This experience demonstrated the effectiveness of the program and created a full-circle moment as I witnessed his journey from the beginning. The best part about this memory is when we gifted him his official chef coat. He is a student that I am still in touch with to this day.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
Hands down, working with the students. They are the reason I have continued to stay on my journey with Curt’s.
As the executive chef, what is your favorite food?
That’s a hard one, but my top two have to be Mexican and Italian food. My favorite dish is Chicken Picatta.
What is your superpower?
Staying calm.
