Feed My Starving Children Trip

About the author : Danielle Gonzalez

During July, our students participated in a cultural exposure trip that involved helping others.

The Trip
The day started with brunch at Grillville, located in the heart of downtown Libertyville. This restaurant has taken over the space formerly occupied by Fodrak’s, a local favorite since 1987. Grillville is famous for its made-from-scratch comfort food, including gyros, kebabs, ribs, burgers, and fries. It has quickly become a popular destination thanks to its generous portions and friendly service.

After brunch, the group went to Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger by providing hand-packed, nutritious meals to children in need around the world. Volunteers of all ages come together to pack meals specifically designed to combat malnutrition. These meals are then shipped to schools, orphanages, clinics, and feeding programs in over 70 countries. Through teamwork, responsibility, and hands-on participation, students learn how small acts of service can create a significant impact.

Student Thoughts
The students really enjoyed the experience, and they expressed how good it felt to do something nice for kids in need. One student mentioned that they would love to return and help pack the other items that had been listed.

Everyone was surprised that, as a large group, we packed 115 boxes in just one hour, with each box containing 36 packages of rice. The students were pleased to learn that the boxes would be sent to children in Tunisia.
