During May, our students experienced two cultural exposure trips.
Mural Unveiling
We joined the Evanston Public Library for the mural unveiling that the students at Curt’s Cafe and Artist Sholo worked on. This was the final project of the 1916: The Journey of a People program that kicked off the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre season and Evanston Public Library Programs.
Bahai Temple
The Baha’i House of Worship offers a quiet and safe space to go inward and revitalize your sense of purpose in the world. The Baha’i Temple in Wilmette is one of the seven originals around the world. The temple celebrates the Baha religion, which embraces a world that is fair, peaceful, and sustainable. The temple has nine sides and rises to a height of 138 feet. The temple, made of white Portland cement concrete, is the recipient of several honors for its exquisite architecture and design.
Lou Malnati’s
We took the students to lunch at Lou Malnati’s, home of the Chicago deep dish pizza. While the original Lou Malnati’s was founded in
1971 in Lincolnwood by Lou and Jean Malnati, the Evanston branch came later as the family-run business grew under the leadership of
Lou’s sons, Marc and Rick. It’s part of the brand’s mission to stay rooted in community, something Lou himself emphasized from the beginning. The Malnatis have always been passionate about giving back, and each location, including Evanston, often participates in local fundraisers and events.
